We have quite a few horror travel stories but this last one ranks number 2 on our list. It all began as we sat on an aircraft waiting to leave the gate enroute for Chicago.
The Captain announced that there was a mechanical problem with the microphone of his air mask and that it would take 20 minutes to fix. 20 minutes turned into 2+ hours and all the while we were sitting in our very comfortable seats. Finally it was repaired and we're on our way.
Since we were 2+ hours late the tower gave our flight priority and we moved into position for take off. However the plane didn't turn to the runway but kept rolling forward and the engines were shutoff. What the?!?!?! The pilot turned on the newly fixed microphone and said that Chicago was closed to all incoming traffic due to oncoming storms, next update in an hour! A little over and hour later we're finally airbound!
We had long missed our connecting flight to Montréal and the airline rebooked us on a later flight with Air Canada. Once in Chicago we had just enough time to catch our connecting flight but that involved running through the airport to the next terminal. Paypay had the car seat with him and I was holding onto Chickpea and she ran as fast as her little legs could move while looking at me and saying 'Nana is running'. We made our flight and got into Montreal very late.
Get through customs to find that our luggage didn't make it, grrr!!! I expected to not see them in Montreal but I was hoping that they would make it so we filled out the paperwork get it stamped by a gizillions different people and finally met up with my sister who picked us up. I was so happy to see her and head for Drummondville.
Our luggage arrived a little more than 24 hours later and I was very glad to see them.
And Chickpea you ask? She did great and was a real trooper the entire time.
I'm not looking forward to our return flight.... can we just be teleported home??
+++++++
